Last call, last call....

My current job requires that
I take call from 11pm Friday to 7am Monday
every four weeks. It is unusual that I get called
in. Most of the folks have a great work ethic and
a can-do attitude who rarely need assistance.
Seeing as how this was my last call weekend
before the end of my job, I thought I would sail
through. I was a fool.
I got called in every night. We ended up holding
patients in the ER because the hospital was full,
so that takes up the space where we can treat
ER patients...in other words, a huge backlog!
So in summary, I have worked the last 8 nights
in a row and I am TIRED! Only one more night
this week and I will have a long stretch off.
The next job I get will not have call...I am putting
it out of my life forever! Can I get an "AMEN" from
my nursing peeps???

  1. Yikes, that sounds awful! I don't know what I am going to do if my first RN job is night shift...I'll never make it.

  2. I've never worked call before. When we're holding patients in the ER, we mostly just . . . hold 'em in the ER and try not to let anyone die, at least till 7:35. 8 nights in a row will make your eyes bleeeeed . . . but that paycheck'll be nice!
